Batailles & blindes HS 39 Les derniere jours du reich

Batailles & blindes. Hors-serie 39

April 20 1945 marked the final anniversary of the now-moribund master of the Third Reich. The Red Army in the East was advancing inexorably toward Berlin, and nothing seemed to be able to stop it. While the Reich, like a wounded animal, still managed to inflict heavy blows on the Soviets, it now offered only symbolic resistance to the Anglo-Americans and the Free French in the West. Despite the symbolic raising of often mediocre divisions, the Third Reich was desperate and could only hope to delay the inevitable.

Adolescents and old people are integrated into the Vokssturm, poorly armed, and thrown into the furnace without any hope of survival in combat. On the Red Army side, the main marshals, Zhukov and Konev, are put in competition by the master of the Kremlin, Stalin, to reach the capital of the Reich and plant the Soviet banner on the Reichstag, the ultimate symbol. This special issue is set in the last ten days of the Third Reich, as Hitler sinks into his madness, sacrificing the last living forces of the Reichstag, only for his guard to shrink ever smaller. The city of Berlin is being ravaged by German ATs, among whom are also fighting foreigners who still believe in Nazi ideology or who wish to continue the fight against Bolshevism begun a few years earlier by Hitler. Externally, battles like Bautzen show that the Reich’s troops can still be determined not to give up ground. The defenders of the German army are in the same state of mind: the place has become a veritable entrenched camp, soon surrounded by Soviet forces. In the West, the Allies are reaching all the major cities one after the other and seeking to stabilize the post-war borders, as everyone guesses that the next major confrontation will be with the former Soviet ally…

While in Denmark, the resistance emerges from the shadows and takes up arms, the poorly conducted German counterattacks in Berlin and its suburbs fail, with the Soviets advancing to the center of the capital, despite roadblocks, strongpoints, and Flaktürme. At the beginning of May, the red flag flew over the Reichstag, the ultimate goal of the war for the Soviets, and Hitler disappeared in flames along with his hopes of seeing the Third Reich last another 1,000 years.
